Swaged or Reduced Tip Temperature Sensors

Reduced tip thermocouple rtd sheath diagram

Swaged / reduced tips are available on all our custom-made thermocouples and Pt100 RTD sensors.

A swaged tip, also known as a reduced tip, is a thermocouple or RTD sensor with a reduced-diameter section at the sensing end. This improves the response time and allows the sensor to fit into smaller spaces while retaining a larger diameter and stronger construction along the rest of its length.

Swaged-tip sensors are available as an option on all our custom-made thermocouples and Pt100 RTD sensors, allowing the sensor to be manufactured to suit your application and installation requirements.

What is a swaged or reduced tip?

A swaged sensor is manufactured with the end of the probe reduced to a smaller diameter over a specified length.

For example, a sensor may have a 6mm diameter body with a 3mm reduced tip. The reduced section can make installation easier where access is restricted or where a smaller sensing point is required.

The exact diameter, reduced length and overall sensor dimensions can be specified when ordering.

Specifying a swaged or reduced tip

If a reduced tip is required, please specify this when ordering or making an enquiry. Where possible, include the required tip diameter and reduced length, together with the overall sensor dimensions.

If you are unsure which dimensions are suitable for your application, simply provide us with your requirements and we can advise on a suitable configuration.
